German Language Certificates: Adults

A1: Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Fit in Deutsch 1 / ÖSD Zertifikat A1

With a successful participation in the exam, one proves that they are able to understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences with the aim of satisfying specific needs. They can introduce themselves and others, ask others about personal matters – for example, where they live, who they know, or what kind of things they have – and can respond to similar questions.

A2: Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch 2 / ÖSD Zertifikat A2

With a successful participation in the exam, one demonstrates that they can understand sentences and expressions that are commonly used and relate to areas of their immediate environment (e.g., information about themselves and their family, shopping, work, the area where they live). They can communicate in simple, everyday situations, especially when it comes to simple and direct exchange of information about familiar and known topics. One can describe their background and education, the area where they live, and things related to their immediate needs.

Children – Adolescents A1: Goethe-Zertifikat A1: Fit in Deutsch A1 / ÖSD KID A1 The candidate can: ask simple questions and make requests and respond accordingly. Write, using simple sentences and expressions, a few things about themselves and others. Understand conversations and texts that refer to familiar topics for them.

A2: Goethe-Zertifikat A2: Fit in Deutsch A2/ ÖSD KID A2 The candidate can: talk about people, places, experiences at school or in their free time. Write a letter or an email in which they provide or request information. Understand the most important information in everyday conversations and texts.

Adults and Adolescents:

At levels B1, B2, and C1, adolescents have the option to take the exams for young learners B1J, B2J, C1J, where the only difference is the topic, which is adapted to issues relevant to adolescents.

B1: Goethe-Zertifikat B1-B1J / ÖSD Zertifikat B1-B1J

With successful participation in the exams, one demonstrates that they can understand the main points of spoken language that is clearly and articulately expressed in the official language and relates to familiar topics related to work, school, free time, etc. They can handle most communication situations that arise during trips to German-speaking countries. One can express themselves simply and confidently on familiar topics and personal areas of interest, narrate experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes, and goals, and provide brief justifications and explanations for plans and opinions.

B2: Goethe-Zertifikat B2-B2J / ÖSD Zertifikat B2-B2J

With successful participation in the exams, one demonstrates that they can understand the basic meanings of complex texts on specific and abstract topics. They can even understand scientific discussions in their specialized field and can speak spontaneously and fluently, making it possible for a conversation with a native speaker to take place without much effort from both sides. One can express themselves on a wide range of topics in a clear and detailed manner, articulate their views on complex issues, and list the advantages and disadvantages of various possibilities.

C1: Goethe-Zertifikat C1-C1J / ÖSD Zertifikat C1-C1J

With successful participation in the exams, one demonstrates that they can easily understand everything they read and hear. They can summarize information from various written and spoken sources and present justifications and explanations confidently. They can express themselves spontaneously, fluently, and accurately without having to search for words. One can use language effectively and flexibly in their social and professional life or in education and studies, express their views on complex issues, and use various appropriate linking elements.

C2: Goethe-Zertifikat C2 GDS / ÖSD Zertifikat C2

With successful participation in the exams, one demonstrates that they can easily understand everything they read and hear. They can summarize information from various written and spoken sources and present justifications and explanations confidently. They can express themselves spontaneously, fluently, and accurately without having to search for words. One can use language effectively and flexibly in their social and professional life or in education and studies, express their views on complex issues, and use various appropriate linking elements.
