Goal: 2 degrees in 2 languages by age 15!

When Europeans Learn Foreign Languages Based on Their Educational System:

Czech Republic: From 6 years old if parents agree.
Estonia: Learning foreign languages from the age of 5 in some kindergartens.
France: Learning languages from kindergarten.
Germany: Learning foreign languages in most kindergartens.
Italy: Teaching a foreign language (mainly English) from the 1st grade.
Malta: Mandatory English from the age of 5.
Romania: Teaching foreign languages from kindergarten.
Sweden: Mandatory foreign language from the age of 7.

On average, in European countries, more than 50% of elementary school students learn at least one foreign language throughout their primary education. This percentage reaches 90% in secondary education.

When should a child start learning their first or second foreign language?

According to parents and educators, the suitable period for a child to start learning a foreign language is in the 1st grade of primary school. However, there is no one-size-fits-all recipe for when to start learning the first foreign language. Every child is different. If a child speaks their native language adequately, they could start, naturally without written language, in preschool. Orally, they can start learning from the age of attending kindergarten, but only if they want to. In the end, there's the anxiety of the second foreign language. When and which one should they choose? Usually, this happens in the 4th or 5th grade of primary school, and it would be good if the child, after deciding they want to learn a second foreign language, took the initiative and decided for themselves which one. They are already mature enough to make their choice. We can advise them but not impose it upon them.

At EURONET, by applying specific teaching methods, the programmes aim to complete the learning of grammar and the necessary vocabulary for students to succeed in language exams for foreign languages.
