According to the experiences of parents and educators, the appropriate time for a child to start learning a foreign language is in the first year of primary school. However, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to when a child should start learning their first foreign language. Each child is different. If a child already speaks their native language fluently, they could start, without necessarily learning to write, during their preschool years. Orally, they can start learning from the age of kindergarten, but only if they want to. Finally, there is the anxiety of the second foreign language. When should they choose and which one? Usually, this happens in the fourth or fifth year of primary school, but it would be good if the child decides that they want to learn a second foreign language and takes the initiative to decide which one it will be. They are already mature enough to make their choice. We can advise them but not impose it on them.
